News - 29/01/2010 - Princethorpe Powers Into Final Sixteen for Daily Mail Vase

Jan_U15 Rugby Team

For the first time ever Princethorpe College Under XV rugby squad have stormed through the Sixth round of the Daily Mail Vase. Malvern College and Princethorpe went head to head for the second time this season. With Princethorpe having lost in their previous match the stakes were high.

The game kicked off with some excellent work by the forwards with Princethorpe dominating the contact areas and really getting stuck into the Malvern pack. Patrick Mills scored the first try of the afternoon and from there on the game seemed to move in Princethorpe’s favour. With half time approaching the score lay at 12-0.

Princethorpe continued to pass the ball expertly in the second half and the last try was scored after some great  work at the lineout by Ben Gledhill where Tom Reeve distributed to captain Clark McCallum who shimmied and raced under the posts. At the final whistle jubilation sounded across the field as Princethorpe’s dream became a reality. They now face the 7th round of the Daily Mail Vase against Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Ashbourne Derbyshire on January 29th.

Master in charge of Rugby Mr Jon Fitt commented,

‘This is an excellent triumph for the team. We have always known what talent we had in this strong Under XV squad. We wish them all the very best with the vital next stage of this  tournament. With only sixteen teams left in the competition this proves what the squad are capable of achieving.’
